Spot On: Handmade Architecture from Chisel & Mouse

Brothers Gavin and Robert Paisley are creating some amazing reproductions of iconic architecture. Their Chisel & Mouse showcases buildings from around the world, including a few favorites of mine.

As their name suggests, the brothers are truly taking the concept of hand-making into the 21st century. The duo use 3D modeling to create prototypes and then use traditional plaster and moulds to create the finished product. What a great way to celebrate classic architecture!

I used to live in Brooklyn Heights and their model of a brownstone is spot on. And who doesn’t want a model of the Guggenheim, one of the most famous museums in the world, sitting on their shelf?

I love their creative restraint. The simple color palette makes the details they’ve included in each piece really stand out. You’ll notice that the doors and windows on many pieces are framed in metal, the red on the Arsenal Building being my favorite.
