Mesmerizing. That’s the word that kept coming to my mind as I feasted on Sean Woolsey’s incredible handmade art, photography and woodwork.
Sean, working from his unbelievably organized workshop in Costa Mesa, CA, has an admirable work ethic, boundless imagination and a well-nurtured creative spirit. It’s my privilege to introduce LAB readers to this outstanding artists. First up, an interview via Living Central:
I did some sleuthing and found an interesting interview Sean did with Cool Hunting. In the interview, Sean describes his sheet metal art as “other-worldly” and indeed it is. It took all my self-restraint to not fill this entire post with all the ethereal pieces Sean showcases on his site. With an incredible array of colors, produced by paints, patinas and solvents, Sean coerces the most amazing rivers and landscapes into his pieces. Can you image what showstoppers these must be in person?
As if Sean’s art isn’t enough, this master craftsman has also produced some pretty modern furniture. It’s really intriguing to me to watch him successfully move from retro modern pieces like the chairs you see above, to his photography and cutting boards, found in his online shop. I’m adding his zine, A Record of Time | A Journal of Wanderlust to my list of must-haves for my library. In fact, I think I’m going to order it right now…done! Why not pick up your own copy today?
