One of the joys of showcasing the global handmade community is finding talented artists who’ve put a fresh spin on familiar pieces. Such is the case with Celine, the creative mind behind the Celine H2O collection.
Just look at the images: Her impressive mix of colors, textures and beading has turned ordinary bangles into intricate works of art. Celine kindly answered a few questions in my continuing Handmade Profiles series. I should note that her list of dream collaborators include two LAB favorites. Enjoy the interview and the pics, then hop over to Celine’s shop to see the entire collection.
1. What inspired you to began your collection?
I always had a passion for art and artistic creations, but I never thought that I’d be a jewelry designer. This new passion of mine came by chance and I decided to follow my instinct and start my own jewelry line. My jewelry are inspired by my travels around the world, mixed with my never ending creativity. I like to experiment with new styles and ideas, to be eclectic. I’m influenced by ethnic, boho chic and tribal styles as well as geometric shapes.
2. Can you name a favorite source of inspiration?
Life in itself is my main source of inspiration, I can be inspired by anything: a song, nature, colors, a book…When I’m in the process of making a new jewelry I never know what the end result will be, and sometimes it’s completely different from what I had in mind. I like to surprise myself! When I create a jewelry I like to go with the flow of my thoughts and my inspiration of the moment.
3. What materials do you love to use?
I love working with copper, big chains, colorful cotton threads and wood elements. I also love to use vintage and reclaimed elements. I see it as an eco-friendly statement but I also think it’s great to know that those elements had a previous life. To me, jewelry is more than just a fashion statement.
5. When you need a musical muse, who do you turn the volume up for?
Music is a part of my life, so I always have it on. I think it’s also one of my great source of inspiration. I love hip hop and soul, but also love chill out music and sometimes a little bit of pop/rock, it depends on my mood of the day!
6. How do you use social media/blogging to promote your work?
I opened my blog (www.celineh2o.com) a couple of months ago, which is not only dedicated to my jewelry but also to my travels, livestyle and beauty tips (I’m really into natural beauty products), I have a Facebook, Twitter and Pinterest page. I’m not a pro at promoting my own work, I’m still learning the ropes of blogging and social media!
7. Where do you see your shop/project going?
I hope I’ll continue to grow as an artist and as a jewelry designer. Even if there are many other awesome designers out there, I believe that there is a place for everyone if you’re truly dedicated to your work and if you believe in it. I’ll go as far as it’ll take me!
