LAB ASSIGNMENT 002 – BRAND: YOU. PART 2: WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

In our last assignment, we discussed defining who we are. This assignment is focused on knowing where we want to go.

Do you know where you want to be 6 months into the future as a handmaker? It could seem like a daunting question at first. After all, there are so many variables and obstacles to building a successful brand, it can be hard to know where we’ll be at the end of the week, let alone 6 months. But, if we don’t have a game plan, some goal in mind, we won’t be able to move forward once the inevitable challenges come. And as any successful artist can tell you, they will come.

Here’s the assignment: Tell us where you hope to see your brand in 6 months. Now, don’t be afraid to dream big. Do you hope to see your handmade goods move from off the screen to a shelf near you? Do you plan on being featured in a curated shop online? Perhaps you want to increase your selection? All good hopes. By stating your intentions for the future, you are owning what you are and what you can do. It’s a great way to start building Brand You.

Hope to see my brand in at least one new independent store/boutique in any cool city in the world.

That quote made me laugh :D In 6 months from now in my wire jewelry business, many people on my email list are eager to reply to my emails and tell me what they think; I’ve got an ad strategy that works – Facebook’s the plan – I’ve got a good weekly routine; and – gosh, I’ll just take a big bite and say I can closely predict how much I’ll sell based on the marketing effort (email, FB, etc). I’ve sold offline successfully but Etsy sales are eluding me. I’m putting a lot of effort into figuring it out this holiday season so I’m confident I’ll fix what I’ve been doing wrong!
