Handmade Trifecta: The Handmade World of Bookhou

HANDMADE-TRIFECTA

When I put together the idea of the Handmade Trifecta, I had shops like Bookhou in mind. What I didn’t plan for was an additional 4th piece to the successful handmade business model: a brick and mortar shop. Honestly, what John Booth and Arounna Khounnoraj have created is a worthy model for any handmaker who really wants to make a handmade impact.

LARGE-FLAT-POUCH-STONES

The philosophy behind Bookhou is simple: slowly designed and hand-crafted goods, made with care. This ideal is clearly seen in the products featured in the Bookhou shop. For instance, check out this Large Pouch:

Isn’t it lovely? It features a green and dark indigo blue print on both sides of the bag. The interior is made of sturdy 100% organic cotton twill lining. I think my favorite thing about this pouch, besides the fab print, is the size. At 10″ x 10.5″, it’s really a great size for a pouch. Super stylish and handmade? Yes!

You can’t have a Handmade Trifecta without a great blog, and the Bookhou team definitely have that. You will really love that images play such a prominent role on the blog. A lot of handmakers get overwhelmed by the idea of regular blogging. As I’ve said many times, all you need are great images and a few lines of text. Use the Bookhou blog as a template and then join us for Project ICANDOIT365.

I haven’t visited Toronto in ages, but if I do get a chance to visit, I will definitely head over to the Bookhou shop. The shop (map here) is filled with their handmade creations. It looks wonderful. Toronto is one of my favorite cities. So diverse and full of greats creatives!

Last but not least, Bookhou is all about Facebook. With almost 3700 likes, it’s apparent that fans of good handmade know that they can get it from these talented artisans. In fact, I was going to include some new items that they posted in their shop today, but they immediately sold out. That just makes me so happy for them. I wish that for all the handmakers I’ve featured on the LAB. If you follow Bookhou’s example, maybe you too can have that kind of success.

There’s a lot more to discover in the Bookhou universe. An online catalog, a great feature about John and Arounna’s home in Covet Garden and more goodies in the online shop await you. Why not head over and get inspired?
