Then, the brand’s team work closely with local artisans and workshops in Peru and Argentina to produce chunky knit blended with modern chic design. Our Hands Our Future represents the brand’s vision of creating handmade luxury garments made by women in challenged communities.
About the brand:
Sien + Co was founded in 2016 by Alexandra Gibson after a cross-country tour of Nepal with her then four-year-old daughter. Upon arriving in Kathmandu they stumbled upon a cooperative of Nepali artisans where they spent a week with the women observing their craft, hearing their stories and dreaming up product ideas. Upon returning to the US, Alexandra left her job as an event marketing professional in Silicon Valley to follow her passion of handmade textiles blended with modern design.
Sien + Co’s luxurious handmade knit apparel items and home furnishings are sustainably made and ethically produced. We travel to the highlands of Peru and dry forests of Argentina to source the best organic wool from sheep and alpacas. We work closely with local artisans and workshops in Peru and Argentina to produce our designs.
Our hands our future conveys artisans hopes to secure new markets for their traditional skills. Today, an expanding group of consumers value the artistic creativity in higher-end pieces. These consumers balance their desires for unique products with questions about the social impact of their purchases. Our mission is to create beautiful, high-quality products while elevating the profile of our artisans. We strive to increase economic opportunities and facilitate creative and educational collaboration.
Alexandra’s work and collaborations have gained recognition in the design world from Vogue, Sunset Magazine, Architectural Digest to name a few. In the future, we hope to get back to Nepal to work with the original artisans that inspired this adventure. In the meantime we are based in the beautiful mountain town of Park City, UT.
